Thanks to its all-aluminum construction, the Mustang MOD V8 engine (part of Ford’s family of modular engines) is 34kg lighter than its cast-iron counterpart and delivers 30kW more than the 2004 engine. That’s 50 percent more power than the 1964 Mustang’s 4,738 cc V8. Electronic throttle control, faster engine management and a new three-valve cylinder head with variable camshaft timing (VCT) all play a major role in the engine’s impressive output.
Due to the use of the three-valve cylinder head with VCT, a higher compression ratio can be used with ordinary No. 87 gasoline, so that the energy of each drop of fuel can be exerted to the extreme. The intake port is equipped with an active charging motion control valve, which can improve combustion according to the different needs of high and low speed areas, and can provide both powerful low-end torque and maximum high-speed power.
The 2005 Mustang V6 uses a new 4.0-liter 60-degree SOHC engine, replacing the 3.8-liter 90-degree pushrod engine used in 2004. The new engine adopts many advanced technologies of the V8 engine, which is inherently more compact and smooth, with greater output power and torque. The 149kw, 320N.m engine (5kw more output power and 14N.m more torque than the old model) adopts a low-section cylinder head and a composite material intake manifold. The working noise has been adjusted to match the powerful image of the Mustang. .
The Mustang’s manual and automatic transmissions have also been updated for improved performance. For the first time, the Mustang is available with an optional 5-speed automatic transmission. The 5R55S automatic transmission offers a unique combination of off-road explosive power and excellent on-road fuel economy. The powerful new transmission control computer communicates with the engine electronics 10 times faster than before, enabling more precise control of shift duration and timing.
